Credit Repair Houston expert Vanessa Perry explains why your credit score is different online vs. when you apply for things with your credit in the Ask Impeccable Episode below.
Online Credit Checks
Many websites advertise “free credit check” or a “free credit report”, these are not accurate scoring systems. Many third party consumer sites advertise as a resource to check consumer credit, but their resources are for educational purposes only. They will have a small box that explains that the scores and data may not be accurate. Even the credit bureau websites use a third party scoring system!
Credit Card Scoring
Credit cards offer third party scoring as well that can be anywhere from 20-200 points off with no rhyme or reason on their scoring simulation. These credit card sites are also only used for educational use and could be considered a fake or fictions score based on the lack of validity.
By entering your personal information to a third party site you are also a target for identity theft. By entering your social security number anywhere online puts you at risk. Above all, make sure that anytime your social security number is used that you are aware what it is being used for and who directly is using it to get your data and scores.
How Do I Check My Credit Score?
To properly check your credit score you can get a single score from a credit bureau when you apply for a loan or a credit card. Make sure to ask the bank what your score is or you will get a letter in the mail with a single score from the credit bureau that was used to qualify. There are a total of three credit bureaus: Transunion, Equifax, and Experian. The only way to get all three scores is through a trimerge credit report. You can only get a trimerge credit report through a mortgage company.
Trimerge Credit Reports
For instance mortgage companies have access to credit reports, but they do cost a fee to process. An individual is not allowed to profit from a credit report. Most mortgage companies take the fee as an expense or have the clients pay for the report. Meanwhile, to pull all three bureaus it is less than $40, but can vary from where they pull from.
